Cork City FC return to Turner’s Cross on Friday to face Treaty United in what will be the Limerick side’s first ever trip to Turner’s Cross. The sides previously met back in April, with Cian Coleman getting on the scoresheet for City but goals from Anthony O’Donnell and Matthew Keane secured a 2-1 win for Treaty.
City come into the game off the back of last Friday’s 2-1 loss to Shelbourne at Tolka Park, while the visitors were defeated at home last week by Galway United.
Speaking to the media Tuesday, City boss Colin Healy said: “I thought we played well on Friday against Shelbourne. We created a few chances and Cian Murphy scored a very good goal, but we were caught out by an individual error later in the game.”
“We know what Treaty are about, we learned a lot from them in the game earlier on in the season, and we know we’re expecting a tough challenge on Friday night. They’ve done well this season and have climbed up the table, so we know what they’re capable of. We’re looking forward to being back in Turner’s Cross and playing in front of the fans again.”
City captain Gearóid Morrissey was also on media duty this week, and he said the change in performances over the last few weeks has been clear to see: “We did very well last week, particularly in the second half. I think we were the better side in the second half and deserved something out of the game. We were disappointed with the result.”
“We know that it’s going to be a battle on Friday night. I was injured for the game earlier in the season, but you could see how Treaty like to play and how they set up. Even though they’re a very new team, they’ve got good camaraderie about them and they’ve managed to pick up some good results so far this season. We know that on Friday that we have to pick up the result, especially being back in Turner’s Cross in front of our fans.”
On the injury front, City will still be without Cian Bargary, George Heaven and Rob Slevin, while Ronan Hurley and Alec Byrne will be assessed closer to the game. City will also be without Jack Baxter, as the central midfielder returned to Preston North End earlier this week following the conclusion of his loan spell at City.
The match will be broadcast on LOI TV. You can buy a season pass for €49, or purchase a single match pass for just €5.
