It\u2019s a second weekend in a row without a fixture for the Cork City FC WU19s but the WU17s will face into their third Under 17 WNL Cup group game. They welcome Bray Wanderers and will hope to finish the group with a 100% record following victories against Cobh Ramblers, and last weekend, against Bohemian FC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jess Lawton took charge of the WU17s last Saturday in Bishopstown before traveling the short distance to Turner\u2019s Cross to take charge of the WNL Senior side and was delighted with the game \u201cWe were exceptional in the first half. We moved the ball really well and looked a quality team, Fiana [Bradley] just continues to score for us and Sarah [Bell] scored to make us very comfortable at half time\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMaybe we got distracted a little bit starting the second half, it was a strange week for the girls. We let them in and they scored twice, to be fair took both their goals well. But really, we were more comfortable than the single goal suggested and our game management was very good. We could really have scored again in the second half.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This week, Lawton will be in Sligo with the Senior side when the WU17 kick-off against Bray Wanderers. \u201cI\u2019ll be fully focused on the senior game, but the first thing I\u2019ll do at full-time is get updates on the 17s game. Mick [Collins] will look after the team, he\u2019s a key part of the staff and I trust them to look after the players, and we all trust to players to continue the good job they\u2019ve been doing when I can\u2019t be there\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn the league campaign, Cork City WU17 had an excellent 9-2 win away to Bray Wanderers but as Cobh Ramblers showed in the Cup a few weeks ago, all the teams in the league are progressing, learning styles of play and how to combat them.
