{"id":1340,"date":"2022-03-19T21:59:48","date_gmt":"2022-03-19T21:59:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/corkcityfc-posts.speiredev.ie\/index.php\/2022\/03\/19\/wnl-city-1-2-sligo\/"},"modified":"2023-08-22T09:42:33","modified_gmt":"2023-08-22T09:42:33","slug":"wnl-city-1-2-sligo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/corkcityfc-posts.speiredev.ie\/index.php\/2022\/03\/19\/wnl-city-1-2-sligo\/","title":{"rendered":"WNL: City 1-2 Sligo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Cork City fell to a 2-1 defeat against Sligo Rovers in their latest SSE Airtricity Women\u2019s National League game at Turner\u2019s Cross on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City started the stronger in the first half, Aoife Cronin came close in the tenth minute after she was played in by Zara Foley but Sligo goalkeeper Kirsten Sample managed to turn it wide. Shaunagh McCarthy came close in the 13<sup>th<\/sup> but again Sample managed to turn it wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 29<sup>th<\/sup> minute City again came close as a well place ball from Eva Mangan found Aoife Cronin who tried to place it into the top corner but Sample was again on hand to put it out for a corner. Mangan was again on hand to set up a chance sending in Shaunagh McCarthy whose effort was well saved and the first half ended all square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City started the second half strong again coming close in the 55<sup>th<\/sup> minute as Aoife Cronin\u2019s overhead kick was cleared. Shaunagh McCarthy came agonisingly close in the 59<sup>th<\/sup> minute as her effort went just wide of the post after a good run down the left wing into the penalty area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sligo took the lead in the 63<sup>rd<\/sup> minute on the counter attack as Paula McGrory made a good run down the right wing and set it up for Gemma McGuinness who put in away from the edge of the box to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Sligo made in the two in the 71<sup>st<\/sup> minute as a good run from Emma Doherty led her into the box where she put it away to make it 2-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City got back into the game immediately as a run down the left wing from Lauren Singleton to the touchline where she sent the ball in across the box where it found Nadine Seward on the far post who put it away to make it 1-2.
